Haystack Mountain School of Crafts on Deer Isle in Maine is one of the most amazing and inspiring places, worldwide, to be a maker. Beautifully modest wooden structures, built with local materials, are perched on a granite ledge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and connected by wooden walkways and natural pathways. The campus itself is a site to behold. Each year they offer 50 artists from around the world a spot in their Open Studio Residency. An alchemy of people, materials, equipment, food, shelter, community, and setting ensues and empowers creativity.
