Aspen 1

"Aspen 1" is an homage to the Quaking Aspen tree, “Populus tremuloides,” and the unique role that this deciduous species occupies in ecosystems of the Intermountain Western US. Often the first to regenerate clearings, burns, or other disturbed sites, Aspen stands create habitat for a lush understory to flourish. From magnificent fall foliage coloration to supporting their keystone wildlife species, the beaver, creating biodiversity richness, Aspen stands resonate with complexity. Recently, a wave of Aspen die-off has caused alarm–forewarning higher temperatures and drought? Stoneware, slips, oxides, underglazes, glazes fired to 2300F in reduction. 32” high by 19” widest diameter.
